China-Brazil Film Showcase Launches in Rio de Janeiro
The 5th China‑Brazil Film Showcase opened on Monday, 3 May, and will run until 25 May in Rio de Janeiro. The event is part of the Brazil‑China Cultural Year and features a programme of 14 films, including seven Chinese titles making their Brazilian debut. Highlights include the action film Operação Sombra starring martial‑arts legend Jackie Chan, the documentary Yuan Longping: Pai do Arroz about the agronomist who transformed rice cultivation, and technical documentaries such as Iluminando Ali and Trabalhadores da Rede Elétrica do Cinturão e Rota.
The free‑admission screenings are held at CineSystem Botafogo in the city’s south zone. The showcase is curated by businessman Arthur Chen – a Zhejiang‑born naturalised Brazilian – together with producer Hélio Pitanga. In addition to the Chinese slate, the programme includes Brazilian works such as the biopic Mamonas Assassinas: O Filme and music‑focused documentaries, aiming to deepen cultural exchange between the two nations.
