China calls for US-Iran negotiations and ceasefire

China's UN Ambassador Fu Cong has called on all parties to facilitate a ceasefire between the United States and Iran and to return to the negotiating table. Speaking at an open meeting of the UN Security Council, Fu stated that high tensions in the Middle East are spreading and seriously impacting regional and global stability.

Fu identified the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal, the intensification of unilateral sanctions, and the policy of maximum pressure as the fundamental causes of the current crisis. He also criticized three European nations for failing to meet their obligations under the nuclear agreement and instead cooperating with the US on sanctions, arguing this undermines the credibility of the UN Security Council.

Furthermore, Fu noted that military strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision prevent the agency from effectively conducting oversight. He emphasized that political and diplomatic channels are the only way to resolve the nuclear issue, noting that while Iran must fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, its right to peaceful nuclear energy must be respected.
