China's 16 MW Haiyou Anlan floating wind platform starts delivering green power

China's first 16‑megawatt tension‑leg floating wind platform, named Haiyou Anlan, has been connected to the Lufeng offshore oilfield grid. The TLP‑based unit is installed about 136 km from the coast in 136 m of water in the Pearl River estuary of the northern South China Sea. It stands roughly 110 storeys tall, weighs 7,800 tonnes and its blades sweep an area equivalent to 7.5 standard football fields.

Designed to survive extreme conditions up to a Category‑17 typhoon with wind speeds around 220 km/h, the platform is expected to generate roughly 54 million kilowatt‑hours of green electricity each year. The project should also save about 15,000 cubic metres of fuel oil and cut carbon‑dioxide emissions by roughly 35,000 tonnes annually, marking a major step for China’s deep‑water offshore wind technology and its integration with offshore oil production.

The launch demonstrates China’s move toward large‑scale, high‑capacity floating wind solutions and a hybrid power model that combines wind, diesel generation and storage to supply offshore facilities with renewable energy.
