China completes key link in Beijing-Hong Kong high-speed railway

The Beijing-Kowloon Railway has reached a 30-year milestone, evolving into a critical north-south transport corridor in China. Since its opening in 1996, the line has facilitated the movement of billions of passengers and massive freight volumes, supporting agriculture, tourism, and industrial development across the country.

A new high-speed railway section is set to begin operations this month, filling a vital link in the 2,370km journey between Beijing and Hong Kong. This new section connects Beijing to the Xiongan New Area in Hebei province, extending through central Henan province toward the south.

By completing this connection, China aims to boost direct express services and strengthen economic ties between the capital, inland provinces, and the Greater Bay Area. China Railway Group expects the various sections of the network to be fully interconnected by 2027, which will significantly improve travel efficiency for passengers moving between Hong Kong and northern China.
