China completes main structure of China‑Russia border ropeway

China announced the completion of the main structure of the first cross‑border passenger ropeway linking the northeastern Chinese city of Heihe in Heilongjiang province with Russia’s Blagoveshchensk across the Heilongjiang River. Construction, which began in 2019, has built a 970‑metre horizontal span and two cabins, each able to carry 110 passengers at a maximum speed of 12 m/s.

When operational, the ropeway will reduce crossing time between the two border cities to six‑to‑eight minutes and is designed for an annual capacity of up to 2.6 million passengers in one direction. The Chinese section was built by Heihe‑based Jinlonggang Construction, whose chairman Cao Xinhong said the project is slated for final completion before the end of 2026.
