China urges United States to halt military threats and blockade of Cuba

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian called on the United States to immediately cease all threats of force against Cuba and to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade that has been in place for more than six decades. He said such actions violate the UN Charter and endanger regional and global peace, citing a recent United Nations General Assembly vote that kept the debate on ending the U.S. embargo alive.

Lin stressed Beijing’s “firm support” for Cuba’s sovereignty and its opposition to any external interference. The remarks came after U.S. media reports that senior Pentagon officials had examined the possibility of a military operation against the island, and followed earlier U.S. moves such as threatened tariffs that have worsened Cuba’s energy shortages.

China urged Washington to work with the international community to restore fairness and justice for Cuba.
