China conducts secret CBRN training for Russian soldiers

Reuters disclosed that approximately 200 Russian military personnel attended a covert three‑week training program at People's Liberation Army facilities in Beijing in November 2025. The program, approved by Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, focused on protection against radiological, chemical and biological threats and involved senior Russian and Chinese generals, including Russian Deputy Defence Minister Rustam Khusainov and Chinese senior constitutional officer Sun Dagui. Photographs show Russian troops studying a mock nuclear reactor and receiving instruction on hazard detection and ventilation protection.

China has denied the allegations, labeling them "entirely baseless," while Russian and Chinese defence ministries have not commented. European officials, citing the same confidential documents, confirmed the training and warned that it underscores Beijing’s role as a "key supporter" of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The European Union is reviewing possible measures, including sanctions on Chinese firms that may be aiding Russia’s military efforts.
