China criticizes Japan over historical revisionism and nuclear policy shifts
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued strong condemnations regarding recent actions and statements by Japanese leadership, accusing the administration of pursuing re-militarization and historical revisionism.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for a speech at a national memorial service for war dead, stating she avoided reflection on past aggression and attempted to obscure historical responsibility.
Additionally, the Ministry addressed controversial remarks by Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi regarding nuclear weapons policy. Lin Jian warned that attempts to modify Japan's ‘Three Non-Nuclear Principles’ and discussions regarding nuclear-related policies represent a challenge to the post-war international order and the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
China expressed concern over Japan's increasing military capabilities, including the pursuit of nuclear-powered submarines and extended deterrence cooperation, urging Japan to adhere to its international obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
