China criticizes US arrest warrant for Raúl Castro
China has expressed strong opposition to a US arrest warrant issued against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro. Beijing described the move as an “abuse of judicial measures” intended to exert pressure on Cuba.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China supports Cuba in defending its national sovereignty against foreign interference. Mao also characterized Castro as a highly respected revolutionary leader and noted that Cuban officials have condemned the warrant as a “senseless legal ploy” and a “pathetic circus.”
Additionally, China urged the United States to immediately end its economic, energy, and commercial blockade against Cuba, as well as any other forms of coercion that infringe upon the Cuban people’s rights to development and survival.
The arrest warrant was issued by a judge in Miami, following allegations from the Florida Prosecutor's Office regarding a purported conspiracy to assassinate US citizens related to the 1996 downing of two aircraft from the civil organization Brothers to the Rescue.
