China defeats Philippines 105-61 to advance in Asian Games basketball

China concluded its group stage campaign at the 2026 Asian Games men's basketball tournament with a dominant 105-61 victory over defending champions Philippines. China maintained control throughout the match, establishing a 36-16 lead in the first quarter and extending it to 66-30 by halftime through fast breaks and rapid ball movement.

Wang Junji led the scoring for China with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while seven different players scored in double digits. This victory marks a significant turnaround for China, who lost to the Philippines 77-76 in the semifinals of the 2022 Asian Games.

The defeat ends the Philippines' title defense, as they failed to secure a spot among the two best third-place teams. In other Group C action, Bahrain defeated Kazakhstan 101-78 to secure second place.

The quarter-final matches are scheduled for September 16 at the Aichi International Arena. The matchups include China against Saudi Arabia, South Korea against Jordan, Iran against Bahrain, and host nation Japan against Chinese Taipei.
