China delivers 300,000-ton supertanker in Dalian

A massive Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) supertanker has been delivered in Dalian, Liaoning province, China. The vessel was jointly constructed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. (DSIC)—a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC)—and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd. for a Norwegian shipowner.

Measuring approximately 333 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and 30 meters in height, the ship features advanced energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. These include optimized hull lines and an exhaust gas desulfurization system, which is expected to save approximately 35 million yuan (about $5.15 million) in annual fuel costs. With a design draft of 20.5 meters, the vessel can transport over 2 million barrels of crude oil and is capable of navigating the Strait of Malacca.

The delivery comes amid significant growth in China's shipbuilding industry. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the sector saw substantial year-on-year increases in new orders, completed deliveries, and order portfolios during the first half of the year.
