China Deploys 12 J-20 Stealth Fighters Near India’s Northern Border

Commercial satellite images obtained by Vantor show that the People’s Liberation Army Air Force has moved a total of twelve Chengdu J‑20 fifth‑generation stealth fighters to frontline bases facing India. Eight aircraft were identified at the Hotan airbase in Xinjiang, roughly 245 km from the Indian Daulat Beg Oldi landing strip in Ladakh, while four were seen at the Damxung airbase in Tibet, about 344 km northwest of India’s Tawang sector. Analysts say this is the largest concentration of J‑20s observed near the contested Line of Actual Control, underscoring China’s growing capability to project advanced air power along the frontier. The deployment does not, by itself, signal an imminent conflict, but it reflects heightened military posturing by both sides.

The imagery, analyzed by open‑source defence observers, provides a rare visual confirmation of China’s fifth‑generation fighters operating from bases close to the disputed border, adding a new dimension to the ongoing strategic rivalry between Beijing and New Delhi.
