Gyirong County mudslides trigger massive relief efforts in Tibet

A massive mudslide and flash flood disaster, triggered by a glacier collapse in the Himalayas, has caused significant casualties and infrastructure damage in Gyirong County, Tibet, and parts of Nepal. The disaster has disrupted roads, communications, and power supplies in the affected regions.

Chinese authorities have launched a large-scale emergency response. The National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Emergency Management have deployed 30,000 items of relief supplies, including tents and heating equipment. The Western Theater Command has dispatched a guidance group via a Y-20 transport aircraft to coordinate joint rescue efforts involving the PLA and armed police. Specialized rescue teams, including search dogs and drone units equipped with mobile base stations, have been deployed to the disaster zone.

Corporate entities have also pledged significant aid. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced a donation to support relief and rebuilding efforts. Nio has donated 2 million yuan through the China Charity Federation to assist with emergency rescue and resettlement. Other reported contributions include funds from Tencent, Xiaomi, and Alibaba to support disaster prevention and recovery.
