China Deploys Second and Third Ebola Expert Teams to DRC

China’s second batch of Ebola response experts arrived in Kinshasa on July 3, meeting DRC Health Minister Kamba, Chinese Ambassador Zhao Bin and team leader Gu Zhiqiang. The delegation will work under DRC command to enhance epidemic monitoring, laboratory testing, case treatment and border health training, building on the work of the first team.

A third Chinese expert team landed on July 1, led by Yang Xiaocheng and drawn from the National Health Commission, customs, Zhejiang University Medical School and the Chinese CDC. Their expertise covers epidemiology, quarantine, clinical care and pathogen testing, aiming to strengthen DRC’s capacity to control the Ebola outbreak, which officials say remains severe.
