China digital sector revenue hits 20.71 trillion yuan in H1 2026

China's digital industry experienced significant growth in the first half of 2026, with total revenues reaching 20.71 trillion yuan, a 13.6% increase compared to the previous year. Total profits for the sector rose by 19.3% to 1.79 trillion yuan.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported a sector profit margin of 8.6%, up 0.7% from the prior year. Regional markets played a crucial role, with the top 10 provincial-level markets generating 17.21 trillion yuan, accounting for 83.1% of the nation's total digital revenue.

Key digital hubs include Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang. Central China saw the fastest growth, with revenues increasing by 28.3% year-on-year to 2.86 trillion yuan. Infrastructure expansion continued with 5.102 million 5G base stations installed by the end of June, alongside 32.86 million 10G PON ports and 2.247 million 5G RedCap base stations.
