China discovers 200 new mineral deposits in 2025

China's Ministry of Natural Resources reported the discovery of 200 new non-oil and non-gas mineral deposits during 2025. The findings were presented at the 28th China Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin.

Among the newly discovered deposits, 16 are gold and 11 are iron, making them the most frequently discovered types. The report also highlighted significant breakthroughs in oil and gas exploration within the Tarim and Junggar basins.

Regarding energy production, China's coal output reached 4.85 billion tons in 2025, a 1.4% year-on-year increase. Crude oil production rose by 1.5% to 216 million tons, marking seven consecutive years of positive growth, while natural gas production increased by 6.3% to 262.06 billion cubic meters. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025), the country identified 398 new large and medium-sized strategic mineral deposits, including breakthroughs in copper, gold, and potash.
