China discovers massive copper-gold deposit in Anhui Province

China has announced a major breakthrough in mineral exploration with the discovery of a massive porphyry copper-gold deposit in the Chating area of Xuancheng, Anhui Province. Located in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, the deposit is identified as the largest of its kind in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Preliminary estimates suggest the copper resources are equivalent to several large-scale mines, while gold resources may exceed those of more than ten large gold mines. The discovery follows a four-month drilling campaign involving over 70 operations. Technical leads noted that the mineralization is extensive, with one exploration hole extending beyond 2,000 meters.

The find is expected to establish a significant production base in East China, helping to supply the region's concentrated copper smelting, cable manufacturing, and new-energy industries. Currently, the Yangtze River Delta relies heavily on copper imports from western China or overseas. This local source aims to reduce supply chain risks and support the high-quality development of advanced manufacturing and renewable energy sectors.
