China displays full nuclear triad in air and submarine missile tests

China publicly demonstrated the three components of its nuclear triad. Earlier in July, the People’s Liberation Army conducted its first submarine‑launched ballistic missile test since 1982, firing a missile into the South Pacific. Chinese officials described both activities as routine exercises and urged the international community not to overreact. Analysts note the timing coincides with the PLA anniversary and rising strategic tension with the United States and its Indo‑Pacific allies, including disputes over Taiwan. Dmitri Stefanovich of the Russian International Security Center said, “The world is not becoming more stable; tensions continue to rise around China’s borders and elsewhere.” The demonstrations are intended as a political signal to Washington and regional partners, underscoring China’s growing strategic confidence.
