China dominates global consumer technology market
Chinese manufacturers such as DJI and Insta360 now control approximately 90 percent of the global smart wearable camera market. This shift follows the decline of Western pioneers like GoPro, which once held over 70 percent of the market in 2015 but is now pivoting its strategy, including the discontinuation of its Hero line in favor of the new Mission 1.
This trend extends beyond cameras to other sectors. In the electric vehicle market, Chinese firms like BYD and Xpeng accounted for nearly two-thirds of all electric vehicle sales in 2025, surpassing established companies like Tesla. Similarly, Chinese brands have gained significant ground in the robot vacuum sector, impacting companies like iRobot.
Experts attribute China's technological ascent to highly integrated supply chains, intense domestic competition in hubs like Shenzhen and Shanghai, industrial automation, and the strategic use of artificial intelligence in manufacturing. These factors, combined with proactive regulatory environments and relatively low labor costs, have enabled Chinese firms to produce high-quality products with shorter innovation cycles.
