China Eastern flight experiences battery fire during Guiyang landing

A powerbank in the overhead bin of a China Eastern Airlines flight on the Lanzhou‑Guiyang route ignited after the aircraft landed at Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport. The fire broke out in the cabin‑upper luggage compartment, causing panic among passengers. Cabin crew quickly opened the bin, removed luggage and extinguished the flames, while airport fire crews were dispatched to the scene.

No injuries were reported. Airport officials said the fire was caused by a portable lithium‑ion battery that spontaneously caught fire, a risk associated with damage, short‑circuit or manufacturing defects. China Eastern launched an investigation into the incident and highlighted the importance of proper handling of electronic devices on board.
