China economy sees export growth in AI electronics amid property sector weakness
China's economic landscape shows a divergence between strong export performance and domestic sector challenges. DBS Group Research forecasts that industrial production may rise to 5.0% year-on-year in August, bolstered by robust export growth of 25.0% driven by high demand for AI-related electronics.
However, the domestic economy faces headwinds. The property sector downturn continues to weigh on fixed asset investment and retail sales, which are expected to remain subdued. The shift from pre-sales to completed-home sales is likely to impact land acquisitions and project starts, particularly for highly leveraged private developers.
In a more positive development for the logistics sector, the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing reported that the August e-commerce logistics index rose to 111.5 points. This increase reflects improved warehouse turnover, delivery efficiency, and order fulfillment. Growth in this sector is being driven by seasonal consumer demand and a shift in consumer preference toward AI-powered smart products, alongside expanding e-commerce activity in rural areas.
