China Embassy in Argentina disputes U.S. technology warnings
The Chinese Embassy in Argentina has issued a formal response to recent warnings from U.S. Ambassador Peter Lamelas regarding technological competition. The embassy characterized the U.S. claims of “threats disguised as competition” as “pure invention,” suggesting that such arguments are used to mask specific geopolitical interests as shared global risks.
This diplomatic friction follows statements by Ambassador Lamelas, who defended the need to control risks associated with technological competition. Lamelas specifically cited concerns regarding Huawei and ZTE, noting that the European Commission views these providers as posing materially higher risks to 5G networks. He also raised concerns about Chinese companies' data management, suggesting that state access to data could impact foreign investment in regions like Vaca Muerta.
