Formula 1 considers China for 2027 season opener

Formula 1 is considering an alternative schedule for the 2027 season due to ongoing instability and conflict in the Middle East. The current plan to start the championship in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia is being reassessed to avoid the logistical and security risks experienced in previous seasons.

A proposed “Plan B” involves opening the 2027 season in China in mid-March, followed by the Japanese Grand Prix one week later. The Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park would then follow in early April, a timing constrained by ongoing pit building construction at the circuit. Under this scenario, the races originally slated for Bahrain and Saudi Arabia would be moved to the second half of April, allowing more time to monitor regional developments.

CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that an alternative plan exists, though specific details remain pending the finalization of the official calendar.
