China enacts Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law

China's Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law officially came into effect on July 1st. As the country's first comprehensive foundational law concerning ethnic affairs, it aims to ensure equality among all ethnic groups, safeguard their fundamental interests, and promote common prosperity and development.

The law establishes a rule-of-law foundation intended to support ethnic work, human rights protection, and stability in border regions. It seeks to strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nation by improving institutional mechanisms through legal frameworks.

The implementation of this law is presented as a necessity for advancing Chinese modernization. Recent policy efforts mentioned include industrial support, capital investment, and poverty alleviation, which have reportedly assisted 31.21 million people in ethnic regions in escaping poverty.
