China escalates diplomatic tensions with Japan and the Philippines
China has intensified diplomatic friction with both Japan and the Philippines following recent political and verbal exchanges. In Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed strong opposition to Japanese politicians visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, describing the site as a symbol of wartime aggression and militarism. The protest follows ritual offerings by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and visits by members of the Liberal Democratic Party.
Simultaneously, tensions have escalated between China and the Philippines. Following controversial remarks by Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan regarding a potential military confrontation, several Filipino lawmakers called for him to be declared persona non grata. In response, the Chinese Embassy in Manila issued a statement directed at these lawmakers, asserting, “You are now on the list.”
While the embassy did not specify the nature of the list, Filipino representatives, including Zia Alonto Adiong and members of the Akbayan party, stated they would not be intimidated. They reaffirmed their commitment to defending Philippine sovereignty and national integrity amidst what they describe as a pattern of Chinese intimidation.
