Chinese automakers expand global footprint amid shifting market shares
Chinese automotive manufacturers are experiencing significant shifts in global market dynamics. In Australia, the Australian Automobile Dealers Association (AADA) predicts that Chinese-made vehicles could capture 58 percent of the market by 2035. This follows a June where Chinese-made cars accounted for 35.5 percent of all new registrations, with BYD emerging as a top supplier.
In China, domestic sales have faced challenges, with July sales dropping 21.1 percent to 1.47 million units, marking the tenth consecutive monthly decline. To compensate, manufacturers have pivoted toward exports, which surged by 88.2 percent in July. This growth is driven largely by electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which saw export increases of nearly 148 percent.
Expansion into new markets continues, as seen with Dongfeng’s upcoming entry into Turkey. The brand plans to launch with the Z9 pick-up model, featuring a 2.3-liter diesel engine developed through the Renault-Nissan partnership, distributed via Marcar Otomotiv.
