China expands international partnerships through sister cities and climate cooperation

China has established 3,196 sister city, province, or state relationships with 153 countries. This was announced following the 2026 China International Sister City Conference in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. During the event, the 'Xi'an Initiative' was released, emphasizing international cooperation to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The conference also recognized 20 Chinese and 40 foreign entities for their outstanding contributions to sister city relations.

In the realm of environmental policy, China is strengthening South-South cooperation to combat climate change. The Chinese State Council reported that China has signed 60 cooperation agreements with 46 developing nations. Key initiatives include the 'Africa Solar Belt' project, which has already provided electricity to approximately 20,000 families across five African nations, with projections suggesting 50,000 families will benefit by 2027. Additionally, China has implemented over 300 projects and trained more than 10,000 officials and technical personnel from over 120 developing countries in climate change mitigation.
