China food delivery safety concerns rise amid poisoning allegations

Reports and social media leaks have raised alarms regarding food safety and poisoning incidents involving food delivery services in China. One viral claim involves a Mixue Bingcheng receipt instructing customers to check for pinholes, unusual odors, or blue-green discoloration in their drinks to avoid potential tampering.

Unverified reports from individuals claiming to be medical professionals suggest a significant surge in paraquat poisoning cases, with allegations of over 4,000 deaths and 10,000 severe cases this year, many linked to food delivery. However, the authenticity of these specific medical statistics remains unconfirmed.

Separate incidents involving Mixue Bingcheng have been documented. In Nanchang, authorities detained two individuals for attempting to extort the company by tampering with food orders. Additionally, social media posts allege that a delivery worker, reportedly a victim of a rural bank collapse, may have intentionally added substances to thousands of meals as an act of social retaliation. These events have fueled widespread public concern regarding social trust and the safety of the food delivery ecosystem.
