China funds $100 million upgrade for Mahosot Hospital in Laos
China has provided a non-repayable grant to upgrade and expand Mahosot Hospital in Vientiane, Laos. The project, valued at approximately 590 million yuan (nearly $100 million USD), aims to transform the long-standing medical facility into a modern healthcare center.
The expanded hospital covers roughly 54,000 square meters and includes 600 beds. Key features of the facility include an emergency department, a medical technical center, an inpatient block, an infectious disease center, and a rooftop helipad for emergency patient transport.
To ensure medical services were not interrupted during construction, the project was implemented in two phases. Sinomach, a Chinese corporation, noted that this was one of Beijing’s largest medical aid projects in terms of construction scale and investment at the time.
