China Gains Favorability Over United States in Global Polls

A Pew Research Center survey of 36 countries found that 27 nations now view China more positively than the United States, with 19 showing a double‑digit advantage. Overall, 46 % of respondents expressed a favorable opinion of China compared with 36 % for the U.S. The majority of the surveyed nations are established democracies. Approval of Chinese President Xi Jinping remains low, with only the Philippines reaching 50 % and most countries below 40 %. Confidence in U.S. leadership on world affairs has fallen to 21 %, now trailing Xi’s 19 % confidence rating.

The poll indicates a notable shift in international public sentiment toward China and a decline in U.S. global image, despite most respondents expressing personal goodwill toward Americans themselves.
