China holds symposium to mark 81st anniversary of Taiwan's retrocession
A symposium was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's retrocession. The event, held on October 25, was attended by approximately 200 people, including descendants of Taiwanese anti-Japanese compatriots, scholars, and former Kuomintang Chairperson Hung Hsiu-chu.
Song Tao, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council, stated that the establishment of the Taiwan Retrocession Memorial Day demonstrates confidence in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that cross-strait compatriots should inherit the spirit of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and firmly oppose “Taiwan independence” secession and external interference to promote national reunification.
To mark the occasion, China Post released a commemorative stamp featuring elements such as the Great Wall, Alishan, and Sun Moon Lake. The anniversary commemorates the 1945 surrender of Japan, which, according to the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation, required the return of Taiwan to China.
