China intensifies crackdown on Falun Gong practitioners with kidnappings and prison torture

Chinese authorities have been reported to kidnap, illegally detain and torture Falun Gong members in multiple provinces. In Jilin's capital Changchun, 70‑year‑old practitioner Xing Shuhua was seized by police. Six members in Tangshan, Hebei, faced a second illegal court hearing after their 2025 abduction. In Liaoning's Dalian area, Zhang Yuzhen has been held for over seven months, suffering serious illnesses and being transferred to hospital under guard.

In Wuhan, Hubei, dozens of Falun Gong followers were arrested in May and some were moved to a secret "brain‑washing" facility where they remain detained. In Hunan, Hu Pinfang has been held in a county detention centre for more than a month without formal charges. In Shandong, police in Jinan entered a Falun Gong member's home, installed a tracking device on his electric bike and monitored his movements. Separate incidents in Hebei and Sichuan saw Zhou Lili and He Guofang abducted and later released.

A separate exposé details the brutal conditions inside Jilin's women’s prison, where Falun Gong inmates are forced to sit on low, uncomfortable stools for hours, denied water, restroom access and sleep, and subjected to physical and psychological abuse designed to compel “conversion". Injuries include severe sores, blood pressure spikes and lasting physical damage.
