China intensifies food safety inspections and online sales crackdowns

China's State Administration for Market Regulation is intensifying efforts to ensure food safety and combat false advertising in online sales. During the National Day holiday period, authorities focused on seasonal, trending, and health foods to crack down on misleading consumer information.

Nationwide data reveals that this year, regulators have inspected 821,000 food business entities, identifying 72,000 issues. This has resulted in 14,000 cases being investigated, fines totaling 61.3 million yuan, and 289 cases transferred to public security organs.

At the local level, Fenghuang County in Hunan Province has launched joint inspections involving market supervision, public security, and transportation departments. These operations target wet markets, supermarkets, catering services, and highway service areas to prevent the sale of expired, untraceable, or counterfeit food products.
