China intensifies multi-pronged pressure on Taiwan
China is conducting a multi-pronged campaign against Taiwan involving diplomatic, military, espionage, and psychological warfare pressures. This strategy includes the use of grey-zone tactics designed to undermine Taiwanese morale and resistance.
Joseph Wu, Taiwan’s National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General, stated that Taiwan has not been under the rule of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) since the PRC’s founding in 1949. He emphasized that the threat of invasion is expansionism that requires deterrence and that Taiwan’s future should be decided by its own people.
In response, the NSC is increasing its role in preparing Taiwan for potential conflict. This includes bolstering asymmetric warfare capabilities, enhancing whole-of-society resilience, and coordinating with other government agencies to secure international support.
