China International Motorcycle Expo highlights electric and intelligent trends
The 24th China International Motorcycle Expo, held in Chongqing, has reached record scales in both exhibition area and number of participating companies. The event highlights a significant industry shift toward electrification and intelligence, with electric motorcycles moving from a supplementary category to a primary technological route alongside traditional fuel models.
Key industry players are showcasing advanced technologies. Naxeon introduced its Niguang OS, an AI-driven system designed to learn and adapt to rider habits to optimize power output and energy recovery. Zijie Motorcycle presented a dual-domain controller architecture that separates driving and cockpit functions, integrating features like 360-degree millimeter-wave radar and voice-controlled navigation. Traditional manufacturers like Kayo are also accelerating their electric transitions with high-efficiency motors and specialized chassis tuning.
Supporting this transition, Huayu Battery showcased a multi-pronged energy strategy featuring lead-acid batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and charging/swapping ecosystems. The company aims to address the global shift from fuel to electric two-wheelers by providing diverse battery solutions and specialized maintenance services.
Chongqing remains a dominant force in the sector. From January to August, the city's motorcycle production rose 50.5% to 7.776 million units. Notably, electric motorcycle production in the region grew by 63%, accounting for over one-quarter of China's total electric motorcycle output.
