China implements new regulations for automotive industry

Chinese regulators are implementing new measures to stabilize the automotive industry, targeting aggressive pricing, rapid development cycles, and supplier payment practices.

To protect the reputation of Chinese brands abroad, the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and State Administration for Market Regulation issued guidelines advising manufacturers to avoid excessive price cuts and misleading advertising. The guidance encourages pricing based on production costs and international supply and demand to prevent damaging competition in global markets.

Domestically, authorities are also addressing supply chain stability. A new notice from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration for Market Regulation aims to standardize how carmakers manage supplier accounts. The policy encourages timely payments, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, and urges the use of cash rather than commercial bills to ensure industry health.

Additionally, regulators are cracking down on the industry’s rapid development speeds. Concerns regarding safety and quality have led to increased monitoring of online complaints and mandatory road testing requirements to ensure vehicles are fully vetted before reaching consumers.
