China launches anti-dumping probe into EU imports

China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into products imported from the European Union. The move occurs shortly before scheduled trade discussions and adds pressure to an already strained economic relationship.

Anti-dumping probes examine whether imported goods are being sold at unfairly low prices that harm domestic producers, potentially leading to additional duties. While the specific products under investigation have not been identified, the action follows increased scrutiny from Brussels regarding Chinese goods.

Trade tensions between the two regions are driven by significant imbalances, with the EU reportedly running a deficit of approximately €1 billion per day with China. Disputes have expanded to include concerns over market access, industrial competition, and state subsidies. Analysts warn that if these economic disagreements become increasingly politicized, there is a risk of a full-scale trade war.
