China launches campaign to boost tourism spending during holidays

China is launching a national campaign to boost tourism and cultural spending during upcoming holidays. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will run from late September through late October.

The campaign covers the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 25–27) and the National Day holiday (October 1–7). To encourage travel, local governments are planning over 20,000 cultural and tourism events and will distribute more than 310 million yuan (approximately $45.9 million) in consumer vouchers and subsidies.

The move aims to capitalize on high-spending periods. Last year, during the eight-day holiday period for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, Chinese travelers made 888 million domestic trips, spending a total of 809 billion yuan.
