China launches new factory to mass‑produce humanoid robots

EngineAI has opened a 12,000‑square‑metre manufacturing base in Shenzhen, enabling the production of a full‑size humanoid robot every 15 minutes and targeting a 10,000‑unit delivery capability. The plant integrates automated locking, gluing and laser‑welding, a closed‑loop quality system and a digital tracking platform that assigns a unique identity to every component.

The launch comes as China cements its lead in the global robotics market. In 2024 the country accounted for 54 % of worldwide industrial robot installations, with more than 2 million units in operation. Chinese firms dominate humanoid sales, with start‑up AgiBot holding roughly 32 % of the market and Unitree about 27 %. High‑profile demonstrations – a humanoid beating the marathon record and backflips on the Spring Festival Gala – have raised public expectations for everyday uses such as home assistance and logistics.

Together, the new factory and the broader industry momentum signal a rapid shift toward large‑scale, commercially viable humanoid robots in China and beyond.
