China: Man wins 20 billion VND using self-written AI

A man in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, won approximately 5.08 million yuan (nearly 20 billion VND) in a lottery draw on August 28. The winner, identified as Mr. Liu, used an artificial intelligence program he developed himself to assist in selecting numbers.

Mr. Liu instructed the AI to select 20 numbers from a pool of 80, which he then manually refined based on patterns such as consecutive numbers and distribution. He purchased various combinations of these numbers at a lottery shop in Longgang, totaling about 130 yuan.

In addition to the primary jackpot, Mr. Liu won ten secondary prizes. While the win provides significant financial relief for the individual, lottery authorities issued a reminder that current AI technology cannot predict the random outcomes of lottery draws.
