China marks 77 years since the proclamation of the PRC

Marking 77 years since the proclamation of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, the nation has undergone a massive economic transformation. At the time of the revolution, China was one of the world's poorest nations, with a GDP of approximately $12 billion, an 80% illiteracy rate, and an average life expectancy of only 40 years.

Following radical agrarian reforms and the implementation of five-year plans starting in 1954, the country began a period of accelerated development. Modernization efforts initiated in 1978 further propelled growth, a process that continues today with the execution of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).

China is now a global industrial leader, contributing 25% of the world's manufacturing and accounting for 14% of total global exports. While its nominal GDP is approximately 70% of that of the United States, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognized China as the world's largest economy by Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) since 2015. Additionally, China holds $3.4 trillion in reserves and leads in patent issuance and high-quality scientific research across 66 technologies.
