China Ministry of Commerce to foster digital trade growth

China's Ministry of Commerce has announced plans to foster new growth points in digital trade by supporting the export of digital services, including remote medical care, online education, and cloud computing. Vice Minister Yan Dong stated that the government aims to expand digital content trade, promoting Chinese culture globally through web literature, gaming, animation, and film.

Data indicates significant growth in China's digital service sector. In 2025, the total import and export volume of digitally deliverable services reached $432.31 billion, a 6.3% year-on-year increase. Furthermore, the import and export value of telecommunications, computer, and information services rose from $93.73 billion in 2020 to $154.53 billion in 2025, representing an average annual growth rate exceeding 10%.

Major Chinese technology firms, such as Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud, are actively expanding their overseas infrastructure to provide digital transformation services globally. To support this sector, the Ministry will work with other departments to implement reform opinions, cultivate leading digital trade enterprises, and support small and medium-sized businesses in entering international markets.
