China launches world's first robot vocational school in Hangzhou

China has opened the world’s first dedicated vocational school for robots in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The school admitted an initial cohort of 30 humanoid robots and provides a structured training program that includes physical assessments, specialized lessons, hands‑on practice and final skill examinations before issuing workplace certifications.

The curriculum covers technical skills, nursing, arts and sports, with lessons tailored to each robot’s hardware and intended industry. Students are prepared for roles in manufacturing, services, security and entertainment. The initiative is part of a national pilot to accelerate the deployment of embodied AI, developed in partnership with research institutes and industry partners. By establishing formal training and certification standards, the school aims to move robots from experimental labs into commercial use across multiple sectors.

Chinese officials describe the project as a step toward building a certified robot workforce that can support factories, public spaces and service industries, reducing reliance on untested machines and strengthening the country’s position in advanced robotics and artificial intelligence.
