China outlines 2026–2030 development goals amid growing ties with Brazil
Chinese President Xi Jinping has outlined development priorities for the 2026–2030 period, coinciding with the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Key objectives include economic development, technological innovation, and increasing national autonomy in high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, advanced materials, and new energy. To support these goals, China aims to increase research and development spending by an average of more than 7% annually.
Simultaneously, the economic relationship between China and Brazil is evolving beyond commodity trading into deeper industrial and financial integration. In 2025, Brazil became the world's top recipient of Chinese investment, totaling US$ 6.1 billion. This partnership now spans energy, infrastructure, mining, and the automotive industry. A notable development in financial connectivity is the integration between UnionPay and Brazil's Pix payment system, allowing Chinese users to make direct payments in Brazil using their local accounts, which are then converted to reais for Brazilian merchants.
