China outlines education development goals for ‘15th Five-Year Plan' period

During a State Council Information Office press conference, Chinese education officials detailed strategic priorities for the upcoming ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ period. The focus centers on building a powerful nation through high-quality education and comprehensive reform.

Key initiatives include implementing the ‘Lide Shuren’ project to foster moral development and expanding the capacity of higher education. Officials noted that between 2027 and 2030, undergraduate enrollment in ‘Double First-Class’ universities is expected to increase by over 76,000. To support new quality productive forces, the ministry will optimize academic disciplines to better serve national strategic needs.

In basic education, the ‘Base Point’ plan aims to improve public service quality and establish over 1,000 high-quality high schools. Vocational education will see the development of approximately 100 municipal industry-education integrated bodies and 20 industry-wide integration communities.

Furthermore, the government plans to launch a national teacher development action to cultivate high-level professional educators. On the international front, China aims to strengthen the ‘Study in China’ brand, hosting hundreds of thousands of international students, while sharing Chinese educational standards and solutions globally.
