China Pavilion at Venice Biennale features robotic calligraphy

The Chinese Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale is featuring a technological fusion of traditional culture and modern art. A central attraction involves a robot using a mechanical arm to guide a traditional Chinese calligraphy brush, writing characters such as ‘Dream’ and ‘Stream’.

The exhibition, titled ‘Dream Stream’, is inspired by the ‘Dream Stream Essays’, an encyclopedic work written by Shen Kuo during the Song Dynasty. In addition to the robotic calligraphy, the pavilion includes an interactive section featuring immersive scenes inspired by the video game ‘Black Myth: Wukong’, utilizing a panoramic screen to transport visitors into a world based on traditional Chinese mythology.
