China performs world's first AI-guided congenital heart surgery
A medical team at the Sixth Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital in Beijing has performed the world’s first congenital heart defect repair using an advanced AI-powered ultrasound robot. The procedure was conducted on a 48-year-old male patient.
Unlike conventional intervention robots that are limited to delivering medical instruments, this intelligent system enables two-way synchronization between real-time image recognition and surgical manipulation. The robot autonomously performs imaging, precise localization of damage, and real-time navigation to assist surgeons in the accurate placement of occluders. This technology aims to reduce human error, increase precision, and shorten the duration of complex cardiovascular interventions.
