Xi Jinping outlines goals for Healthy China initiative
At a national health and hygiene conference in Beijing, Xi Jinping emphasized the strategic importance of the ‘Healthy China’ initiative, aiming for significant progress during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030). He stated that the goal is to build a nation that is “balanced, inclusive, high-quality, and efficient” in its healthcare delivery.
Key objectives include strengthening the world’s largest medical service system, enhancing traditional Chinese medicine, and improving disease prevention and control. Xi highlighted that prevention is the most economical and effective health strategy, calling for a societal shift toward healthy lifestyles and personal responsibility for health management.
To achieve the 2035 targets, the initiative focuses on optimizing medical resource distribution to ensure rural and remote areas have better access to care. The strategy also involves deepening reforms to coordinate medical services, health insurance, and the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring that healthcare development remains a priority in all national policies and projects.
