China protests US sanctions on Chinese research institutions

China expressed strong dissatisfaction and decisive opposition after the United States introduced sanctions targeting several Chinese research institutions and announced plans to ban imports of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots as well as certain energy inverters. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Beijing will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its research institutions and to ensure a favorable environment for normal scientific and technological exchange.

The ministry accused Washington of over‑expanding the concept of national security, creating discriminatory barriers and politicising scientific cooperation. It called on the United States to stop what it described as “unjust accusations” and to provide fair, impartial treatment. The measures are part of a broader U.S. effort, reported by Reuters, to protect the development of American artificial intelligence and key industries, with the Federal Communications Commission expected to announce import‑restriction rules.
