China railway investment rises 1.5% in first eight months of 2026

China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. reported that fixed asset investment in the railway sector reached 511.8 billion yuan (approximately 75.68 billion USD) during the first eight months of 2026. This represents a 1.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The steady progress in railway construction is intended to support related industries, boost employment, and stimulate domestic demand to ensure stable economic growth. Key developments include the opening of the Wenling-Yuhuan section of the Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou high-speed railway in Zhejiang province, which reduces travel time between Hangzhou and Yuhuan to 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Looking forward, the company plans to implement construction projects outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). This strategy involves coordinating the development of new lines with the modernization and capacity expansion of existing conventional railways to support high-quality economic and social development.
